Reflections on Differences between Face-To-Face Versus Social Media

(Activity for the end of my Friday above….Clear Your Mind!)

Even though the majority of my virtual assistant work is done individually at my own desk, there is always sporadic face-to-face meetings, networking and marketing time. This week I had a good balance between all three. The Stark difference is the types of interaction that is needed and expected in each case, and whether it is for you or for a customer.

Which brings more results and in what ways? That will be seen with next week’s activities. No matter what develops remember what I did to get there! Always be dynamic in the approaches!

The Value of Face-To-Face / Face-To-Phone

When you are working directly with somebody, and are able to see and hear them it is easier to read their reactions and gauge your responses more readily. Each interaction needs to be taken seriously, and your professional candor needs to be maintained. You have a short time to make a good impression. A short face-to-face could be all that is needed to complete the task at hand and set the pace for future endeavors. In some cases, you may be the initial contact between your customer and their desired connection of which was the case for me this week on multiple occasions. When acting as the middle-man, I remember when I’m talking on behalf of the customer its like they are speaking themselves. As an extension of their reach always be pleasant and make sure to remember the names of who you are speaking to. Respect all around.

The Value of Social Media

Social Media work is usually done on an individual basis, but the words that I use are either an extension of myself or my customer. I can only gauge a degree of the success with social media work based on the impressions that is immediately see with impressions after the information is put out. When working on my own footprint in the social media community, I’m usually working on material with a long-term possibility of being either searched or sourced out by others. Some social medias have a base where there is only a 24-hour viewing time and get deleted, and others are there for posterity sake in the long-term. I am always trying to keep the focus directly intended to and get to the right customer base. I try to use consistent and similar posts between all my active social medias. In fact, someone asked me in a face-to-face meeting this week what social medias I use and how are the ROIs. Keeping a few specific examples on-hand is always good to do, and quickly pull out of the hat.  Anything put in writing or video online will end up being part of an ongoing resume.

Many times, it is a customer’s social media that I am working on. Once again, I am an extension of the customer need to make sure I am consistent and clear. I can’t stress how important self consideration of being the extension is when you’re doing this job.

This week was more based on what I needed to do for myself and my business, and all I can do is try to leave a clear and authentic message out there. Next week could be totally different…the challenge of being a double small business entrepreneur.
